The Cycle Sierra Nevada Scholarship was developed as a way to sponsor young cyclists that may not have opportunity or financial capacity to avail of a cycling training camp. In this section we take 5 minutes for a chat with one of the applicants selected for the 2019 program.

A 17 year old cyclist and football enthusiast from London.
What team do you ride for?
Cycling Club Hackney
Why did you start cycling?
Watching Alberto Contador dance on the pedals up mountains in La Vuelta.
Have you any sporting backgrounds apart from cycling?
Played a lot of football my whole life.
What type of cyclist are you? Do you compete in other disciplines, other than road cycling?
I mainly ride on the road but have done some cyclocross and track races.
Favourite piece of cycling equipment/kit?
My 93g carbon saddle.
Your greatest achievements on a bicycle?
Riding Alpe d’huez in under 50 minutes.
Your favourite professional cyclist? (past and present)
Esteban Chavez.
Most memorable moment/stage win from professional cycling?
Chris Froome’s 100km solo breakaway in the 2018 Giro d’italia.
Your favourite stage race and one day race?
La Vuelta, because it’s so mountainous and entertaining and Strade Bianche because of the finishing climb.
What's your current favourite music album/song?
All music and pedalbikedays ft. Headie One is my favourite song.
Tell us something we don’t know about you already and you don’t mind the general public knowing?
I once forgot my helmet and shoes to a race and borrowed a teammates and went on to win the race.
Hopes and plans for the future?
Ride my bike for a living.
