Gravel Rides Granada - Los Guájares

The ride details

An Unforgiving but Spectacular Loop

This loop is not for the faint-hearted. With some of the steepest gradients a bike can handle, it’s challenging but rewards you with breathtaking scenery and an unforgettable experience.

The Best Gravel Riding You’ll Ever Do

Deep in the mountains, this loop offers some of the most immersive and scenic gravel riding in the area. You’ll ride for hours without seeing signs of life, surrounded by raw, untouched nature.

Preparation is Key

This ride is only suitable for gravel or mountain bikes—road bikes are not recommended, despite some road sections. Food and water are critical: the only stops are in Guájar Faragüit and Guájar Alto. We recommend refueling in Guájar Alto at kilometer 16.5, as there are no other options once you leave town. Pack plenty of snacks—the relentless climbing demands energy, especially on the 11km gravel climb with gradients hitting nearly 21%.

The Climb: A Unique Experience

As you leave town and start the climb, the views become increasingly stunning. Each turn reveals something new, from snow-capped peaks to glimpses of the Mediterranean. It’s a challenging ascent, but the scenery makes it worth every pedal stroke.

The Descent: Adrenaline-Fueled and Technical

After summiting at 1,100m, you’ll face an extremely tight and technical descent back into Guájar Alto. It’s as thrilling as it sounds, requiring focus and skill. Once back in town, the final stretch on the road offers a welcome respite as you descend all the way back to Vélez de Benaudalla.

The Climbs of Granada & The Sierra Nevada

The climbs of the Sierra Nevada may not be the most well known, but they are undoubtedly some of the best in Europe. Most tend to exclusively consider the likes of Mallorca or Girona for their cycling holiday/training camps. While these are all great options, the Sierra Nevada matches and even outdoes each of the aforementioned
