The ride details

The ‘La Venta’ Loop: Perfect for Shaking Out the Legs

This loop is ideal for a post-travel ride, showcasing the incredible cycling right on our doorstep in Vélez de Benaudalla. With no traffic to navigate, you’re already in the perfect spot to enjoy some of the best riding in the world.

Route Overview

The ‘La Venta’ loop combines a steady climb, thrilling descents, and scenic stops. It’s a 14.2km climb followed by a mix of rolling descents and short climbs, offering a balanced and enjoyable ride.

The Climb: Warm-Up to the Summit

The ride starts with a 4km flat warm-up before hitting the initial slope of the 14.2km climb. The summit, marked by the Torre de la Cebada (Barley Tower), comes at 18.5km. This historic castle, dating back to the Nasrid period (1230-1492), once protected the passage of people and goods through the Lecrin Valley. From here, the ride features more descending than climbing.

The Descent: A Roller Coaster Ride

After the castle, enjoy a 5km roller-coaster descent on a quiet, traffic-free road. This is followed by a short 2km climb to Pinos del Valle, a charming town perfect for a coffee stop. We recommend Bar Venecia (26.5km into the ride) for a Spanish omelette or tostada.

KEY RIDE KIT

Fast and Furious? More like fat and furious! You may think you’re fast, but there’s no way you’ll ever look as fast as our Patrón next to an “Alpujarra Racing” Seat. Stay cool in one of our lightweight cycling jerseys, built for long ascents under the Andalusian sun.

The Climb oN THIS ROUTE

One of the closest climbs to our base here in Velez de Benaudalla, the Los Guájares climb is also one of the nicest around. The first 6 km up to the lovely little village of Guájar-Faragüit are rolling, with an easy gradient up until the right turn in the village, where the gradient increases. If you want to stop for coffee…
