We needed a bike that would go anywhere and stand up to anything thrown at it. So we designed one for the demands of the Sierra Nevada and had it built by our master frame builder in China (our welding is not so good and the guy probably has a lot more experience than your custom hipster frame builder that just started welding last year).
This is not a generic off the shelf frame, it’s a complete custom bike. We designed more of an “all-road” bike than a full gravel bike, we want to go fast on asphalt and not be weighed down by very large/slow tires. Hand-built wheels by DCR in the United Kingdom. No practical things like mounting holes for a third bottle cage or mud guards (because they’re ugly AF and when does it rain in Southern Spain?). We went for a T47 threaded bottom bracket, for the benefits of a larger bb30 style bracket for stifness, it also offers a great weld area. The larger BB also allowed us go with internally routed cables through the BB. A semi integrated HS, we go against the grain here as we don’t see the benefit of paying a lot to have the name of some fat American guy on our bike (sorry Chris!) and we think the aesthetics of the bike are better like this anyway!
